It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
Back at the hospital we had an interesting day Tuesday, “O” the small fluffy Chihuahua came in needing a dental, badly. She ended up with only three teeth in her mouth and a massive heart murmur.
Fun Fact: bad teeth leads to heart murmurs as bacteria that break off the teeth will travel and live in the pipes in your heart where it is nice and warm and wet causing murmurs.
Well little fluffy had an oversized heart and was not willing to eat and to make matters worse the owner had no money so we did what we could to increase her appetite and reduce her pain but there was not much to be done, she went home and hopefully made a full recovery.
“M” stayed in the hospital from Friday (3-14-14) to this last Wednesday. As a diabetic cat he had been receiving large amounts of fluids and insulin to bring down his blood glucose levels. Well I finally managed to snap a picture of him and I gained another new skill: tube feeding.
With a small tube reaching from his nose straight to his stomach we gave him bihourly feedings which were far from clean or easy. The tube was so small that the watered down food particles to would block the syringe and tube regularly.
He finally went home with a happy appetite of his own and it was sad to see him go, he was a very sweet cuddly cat.
I would like to tell you about Doug. Doug is my bus driver a majority of the time that I use the bus. He is the driver that helped me get to work throughout this entire winter. He is a sweet guy who has a great relationship with all his regular riders. He makes small talk, cracks jokes, asks about the family and life and has an overall approachable personality.
Well about a couple weeks back he said that if I made it through the winter on my bike that he would buy me hot chocolate. Sounded sweet, did not get my hopes up but I liked the fact he noticed how hard I have been working. This last Wednesday right before I loaded my bike unto the bus like normal he comes up and continues a running joke and said “ as you know it is the day before spring and it is a good a time as any to fulfill the promise of the transit gods so here….” And he handed me this
Now believe me I would have been thrilled if he just got me normal hot chocolate but this! This shop was founded by a French chocolatier, this place produces high quality chocolates (that my mom bought a few of when orientation occurred, they are very amazing!). Even my coworkers were impressed! Thank you Doug for being such a great guy.
